Halftime update: West Virginia’s trying to save their season

The Red Raiders are fighting a Mountaineer team that doesn’t want their season to end.

Just last weekend Texas Tech was celebrating the program’s first Big 12 championship. However, it looks like the celebration may have lasted too long as the Red Raiders starting today’s quarterfinal matchup slow, sluggish, and unenthused.

At one point West Virginia was up by 17 points before Tech finally went on a run to cut it to four. West Virginia once again grew the lead back up before halftime behind the play of Emmitt Mathews Jr. who’s having himself a career day with 15 points in the first half alone. Matthews has over twice as many points as Jarrett Culver, Tech’s leading scorer. The Mountaineers have also dominated the boards, outrebounded the Red Raiders 26-11.

Tech was able to cut into the lead, and will have more digging to do to get out of this hole in the second half.
