Pitcher of the week: Taylor Floyd

Good pitching was scarce against the Ducks

In a high scoring weekend that was shortened by weather, we saw the Red Raiders throw numerous arms at the Oregon Ducks. Starters had a tough time as the Ducks jumped on the Texas Tech pitchers to put pressure on Tadlock and his staff. Pitching was hard to come by during this series as both teams were swinging the bat well. The Red Raiders had a difficult time keeping the Ducks off base, but when it mattered most the Red Raider pitching staff found ways to come up with big outs.

Both teams found themselves digging deep in their bullpen and Coach Tadlock struck gold when the JUCO transfer Taylor Floyd came in for 2.2 IP while recording 5 strikeouts and 0 ERs. Floyd did give up 5 hits, but his ability to strikeout the Ducks kept the Red Raiders in the ballgame.

Floyd’s pitching gave him the win in a tightly contested comeback for the Red Raiders. The 12-11 comeback win eased the nerves of many fans, including myself, and without Floyd’s pitching the Red Raiders might be 1-2 instead of 2-1.
