No. 12 on our roster countdown is defensive back Damarcus Fields. The sophomore from Taylor, Texas, is best remembered for his interception of Mason Rudolph that lead to a 95 yard run for a pick 6 touchdown to tie the game against Oklahoma State. The interception was marked the longest in the Big 12 all season, and was reason enough to be named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on October 2.

Last season, he payed in all 13 games earning 11 starts. He completed the season with 51 tackles (38 solo) and contributed to Texas Tech’s turnover count with two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and his now famous interception. Though he saw little action between Eastern Washington (9/2) and Arizona State (9/16), he did eventually record his first collegiate tackle versus the latter. He earned his first career start against Houston where he recorded three tackles to go along with a forced fumble, fumble recovery and a pass breakup in the win.
Another week. Another Red Raider winning a @Big12Conference weekly award.

This season, Fields is expected to have a major impact in the secondary. His versatility makes him a key player, and Kingsbury could use him to play multiple roles throughout the season.
