Red Raider football is just around the corner and it’s time to start predicting how the season will go. It’s no secret this is a make or break season for Kliff Kingsbury. People are placing bets on how far into the season he’ll make it. Everywhere you look there is an article talking about who will be Texas Tech Red Raiders’ head coach in 2019, but what if he surprises everyone with the best season yet? What if the team continues to improve through the rest of his contract?
Kingsbury is currently in the best position to have a winning season. While he has struggled to produce a successful defense during his five-year tenure, defensive coordinator David Gibbs seems to be moving defense in the right direction. He has been with the Red Raiders since 2015 and just agreed to a new 2-year contract in December. His defense allowed 32.2 points per game in 2017, down from 43.5 the previous year. Nine players will be returning to defense this season.
Additionally, Kingsbury has really stepped up his game in recruiting. While we were trying to figure out when he lost his swagger, he surprised us with some much needed recruits. Texas Tech’s 2019 recruiting class has now climbed up to 4th in the Big 12 and 31st nationally. Just yesterday four star defensive end Gilbert Ibeneme announced his commitment to Texas Tech.
Overall, the team seems to be improving. Kliff Kingsbury has everything he needs to have a winning season. Many fans are hopeful, but do you think he has what it takes?
