With the NFL season approaching, Red Raider fans have kindly been reminded that the no. 1 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft was heisman trophy winner Baker Mayfield who infamously left Texas Tech to join Oklahoma. From there, Mayfield achieved major success while also making sure to denigrate Kliff Kingsbury and the Texas Tech football program any chance he gets.

That last quote came from 2015 before Kliff Kingsbury graciously helped grant Mayfield an extra year by avenging a Big 12 rule which Mayfield knew about before transferring.
Mayfield has definitely worn out his welcome in West Texas but one man who’s always welcome back is the legend Zach Thomas. @TXSportsLife is doing a bracket of greatest Texas athletes ever and Mayfield and Thomas went toe to toe in the first round.
“Best TX Football Player of All-Time”

~ Round of 128 ~
(5) Zach Thomas
(124) Baker Mayfield
Red Raiders fans showed support by advancing Thomas to the next round. Thomas is not just one of the greatest Texas Tech football players ever, he may be one of the greatest players to ever put on a helmet.
Despite being a seven-time All-Pro performer with 1,100 tackles, 20.5 sacks, and 34 forced turnovers, Thomas is still yet to make the hall of fame. Though Thomas’ stats line up with those of Brian Urlacher, Urlacher was made the hall in his first attempt this year while Thomas has been denied three times.
Zach Thomas may still have to wait to make the hall of fame but he’s still being recognized in the Texas sports world.
