Weekly recruiting update: New offers in basketball

Chris Beard has started to fill his board for the upcoming class with talent.

After a strong 2018 recruiting class headlined by Khavon Moore, Kevin McCullar Jr., and Kyler Edwards, Chris Beard has been back on the recruiting trail as of late, offering some talented prospects in the 2019 class. In this week’s recruiting update, we will look at these offers, as well as take a look at a couple upcoming commitments for football.

Basketball

6’9” C Jalen Graham

While Graham is unranked on 247 Sports, he has enjoyed a breakout July, earning a host of new offers from Kansas State, Oklahoma, Fresno State, and recently Texas Tech. Chris Beard will be looking for bigs to replace Tariq Owens and Norense Odiase, and the Phoenix native would appear to fit that role. Look for Graham to continue to receive offers, as his post game and length could be an important addition to high major teams needing bigs.

6’5” SG Donovan Williams

Unlike Graham, Donovan Williams has already been touted as one of the top players from the state of Texas in the 2019 class. The Missouri City native is ranked 97th in the 247 Sports composite, and is the seventh best player in the state of Texas according to the rankings. Williams holds offers from a host of high major schools, and seems to be a high priority for the Texas Longhorns. Williams has played well in the Peach Jam in Atlanta, Georgia, which was coincidentally was where the staff first had contact with Khavon Moore. Williams has a game similar to that of Kyler Edwards, where his strength lives in driving on offense and playing tough defense.

6’2” PG Caleb Grill

While Caleb Grill may be an unranked prospect from Kansas, it appears as if Chris Beard likes what he sees in Grill, as the 6’2” point guard picked up an offer from the Red Raiders this past Sunday. Grill has shown the ability to be a scoring machine at camps, and the offer from Texas Tech was his ninth total and second high major offer, with Nebraska offering him on July 13th.
