It’s watch list season and another Red Raider has ended up on a prolific list: Dakota Allen, senior linebacker and superstar, was just put on the watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy.

The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is awarded to the nations best defensive player and Dakota Allen is, in my opinion, well worth the price of admission. In 2017 Allen earned his way back into the hearts of Red Raider fans everywhere; logging 102 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 interceptions throughout the course of the season. Allen was voted the captain of the squad before the season had even begun and commanded the revitalized 806D as well as could be imagined. In the offseason - nothing has changed. His work ethic, his leadership, his vision has only magnified as the defense around him continues to grow.
He returned to Lubbock, was named a team captain by his peers and has become one of the nation’s best linebackers.

Allen is the captain at the helm of a very talented and very hungry defense that is looking to fight the nation’s stereotypes regarding the combination of “Texas Tech” and “defense.” If Allen pulls this off, and the 806D becomes a wrecking ball in the Big 12, then national pundits are seriously going to be considering Allen’s football pedigree for a lot more than the Bronko Nagurski Trophy. Buckle up, the 2018 season is going to be wild.
