There’s only 40 days until the Texas Tech Red Raiders take on the Ole Miss Rebels at NRG Stadium in Houston. So today, we will be talking about our number 40, Dakota Allen. Allen is a senior linebacker, and will be the heart and soul of this team as well as probably the best player. He will no undoubtedly be one of the team’s captains going into this season as he was a captain last year as well.

Allen was a 3-star recruit coming out of Summer Creek High School in Humble, Texas. He chose Tech over Big 12 foes Oklahoma, TCU, Kansas State, and Iowa State. He was redshirted in 2014, but got his chance in 2015 as he logged 87 tackles as a freshman for the Red Raiders, including a season high 15 against Oklahoma.
So fresh, so clean.

Allen was unfortunately forced to leave the team for an off the field incident during the 2015 offseason, and ended up playing at a junior college for the 2016 season. He went to East Mississippi Community College, known for the Netflix documentary Last Chance U. Allen had a stellar season, racking up a team-leading 117 tackles. He then was permitted to re-join the Red Raiders, where he has made a massive impact since.
Dakota Allen has been named to the watch list for the Bednarik Award, which goes to the nation’s best defensive player! #WatchListSZN

His 2017 campaign was incredible, as Allen had 102 tackles, 2 sacks, and 2 interceptions. He was the leader of this defense, and that is something that will definitely translate to this season for Allen. He has also been named to the Bednarik Award watch-list, given to the best defensive player every year. Not only is Allen a positive on the field, he has become a role model for the team off the field. I, along the rest of Red Raider Nation are looking forward to his final season as a Red Raider.
How many tackles do you think the Allen will get this year? Let us know in the comment section below!
