The road to Omaha continues for the Texas Tech Red Raiders as they faced Duke on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Raiders used four pitchers on Saturday. The starting pitcher was Dylan Dusek who struggled a bit due to his blister on his throwing hand. In just over one inning he allowed two hits and two runs. He was replaced by Ryan Shetter in the second inning. Shetter started the inning with two on and two out. Shetter pitched for 4.2 innings allowing four hits, two runs, no walks and three strikes. Jose Quezada took over in the seventh. He allowed one hit, one run, one error, and one walk in 1.2 innings. Harpenau entered the mound in the ninth to get the save.
The first Red Raider run of the afternoon came in the fifth inning with a two RBI double to left center from Grant Little. This allowed Klein and Holt to score. It was also Little’s 23rd double of the year. In the sixth, Holt hit into a fielder’s choice, which eliminated Fulford but allowed Warren to score tying run, knotting the game up at 3. Zach Rheams had a home run over the right field wall in the seventh to tie the game once again, 4-4. This was Rheams 17th home run of the season. The Red Raiders finally took the lead in the eighth, when Gabe Holt hit an RBI single to right field to score Farhat. It was quickly followed by Brian Klein, who hit a double down the right field line to score Holt from first. The Red Raiders defeated the Blue Devils 6-4.
Game two of the series starts at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
