We are all well aware of Tech’s recent recruiting woes. But not all is doom and gloom, as Seth Collins (wide receiver transfer from Oregon State) and Preston Gordon (defensive tackle graduate transfer from Rice) have both arrived in Lubbock to join their brothers-in-arms.
Red Raider fans should be excited about both transfers, especially since both are immediately eligible this season. Collins, with two seasons of eligibility, secured an NCAA waiver making him eligible right now. Gordon, as a grad transfer, has one year left to play.
Collins is looking to fill Kekee Coutee’s role as the “Y” receiver. A former quarterback, his receiving numbers were limited to just 48 catches totaling 548 yards in 2 seasons. He has dealt with both suspensions and an injury, so a clean year should significantly improve those numbers.
Gordon racked up 28 starts in 3 years with the Rice Owls, earning 87 tackles and 7 sacks. Look for him to play a true defensive tackle, and rotating some into the nose tackle position.
We all know this was not a ground-breaking year for recruiting, but there are some new faces next season that will make a name for themselves. Expect these two men to be among them.
