Matador Mailbag: All’s good for the Red Raiders

Tech baseball, committment news, and a new schedule, this summer is off to a great start.

With Texas Tech baseball working their way into the postseason, all’s good in Red Raider land, though it could have been better with a Both Gach commitment.

Not getting Gach’s commitment isn’t all bad, as it does lead way to Keonte Kennedy potentially commiting. Either way, it’s a good time in Red Raider land, and nothing can knock us off our mojo.

Khavon Moore is undoubtedly the big get of this class, but he’s not really “hidden.” The surprise of this class will likely be Kyler Edwards. The more tape I watch of Edwards, the more I’m surprised he was a three-star recruit. He reminds me of Zhaire Smith in that he’ll be a better player than prospect.

Jah’Shawn Johnson is currently Tech’s highest rated NFL Draft prospect (even higher than Dakota Allen). Johnson has played well for three years and this year will be a way for him to show his leadership. Matt Miller released his way too early big board for 2019, and had Jah’Shawn Johnson as the fifth highest ranked safety. Johnson will be battling perception even with the amount of talent coming back. I give Johnson a 25% chance of being drafted in the first three rounds, he’ll need an exceptional year to prove scouts just how good he is.

I think the universe hates us and wants to condemn us to 11am games for the rest of our lives. Playing Ole Miss at 11am isn’t too much of a surprise however. The last Advocare Texas Kickoff in Houston was Houston’s upset of Oklahoma and that game also started at 11am.

The part of the schedule that had me giddy was the 6:30 matchup on ESPN at TCU. Tech fans always fill Amon G. Carter Stadium when the Red Raiders come to town and a night game on ESPN could have the stadium look like Jones AT&T west.

Short mailbag this time around. Like always, tell me how wrong I am in the comments and head out to Dan Law Field and cheer on the Red Raiders in the regionals!
