Since 2004, the NBA Draft has been nothing more than an ESPN special for Red Raider fans. However last Thursday was different as three Red Raiders hoped to have their name called.

Zhaire Smith was the top contender as he had been linked to numerous teams as a first round pick. Zhaire became a guarantee to be a first rounder but a question arose as to where Red Raider fans would selfishly want his to go?

Like always, Texas Tech fans just want what’s best for our players. Zhaire was drafted by the Suns with the 16th pick and traded to the 76ers. Playing alongside Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid will allow him to be a “3 & D” player naturally.

Keenan Evans was a star for the Red Raiders last season, however with his toe injury and style of play, his stock was one of a borderline draft pick.

Red Raider fans felt he hadn’t done enough to be a second round pick. Unfortunately, Evans fell out of the draft entirely. Evans was able to sign on with the Golden State Warriors summer league team and will be given the opportunity to earn his way onto the actual team.

Zach Smith had an outside chance of being drafted however was likely looking to find a team he can sign.

Tech fans were mostly split on Zach Smith’s draft possibilities. 29% were spot on as he signed a summer league deal with the Atlanta Hawks.

All three players will look to prove themselves at the next level and be founding members of #RedRaidersInTheNBA.
