Texas Tech basketball target Both Gach commits to Utah

The four-star recruit chooses the Pac-12 over the Big 12 in a tough decision

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-East Regional-Villanova vs Texas Tech Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

Texas Tech basketball target Both Gach, a 6’7 SG/SF from Chandler, Arizona, announced his commitment to Utah this afternoon.

Gach is a four-star recruit in the class of 2018, who also received offers from San Diego State, Kent State and Loyola Marymount.

This is a big deal and certainly comes as a surprise, considering most experts predicted Gach would end up choosing the Red Raiders. Perhaps there was an issue with playing time, but either way, this is a tough loss for Chris Beard and staff as they try to round out their recruiting class for 2018.

The last realistic target for Tech is Austin Westlake guard Keonte Kennedy, who’s still deciding between Tech, SMU and Xavier. He’s postponed his commitment announcement twice, but maybe the Gach-to-Utah signing will open the door for Kennedy to sign with the Red Raiders. The two play the same position, so maybe that was the last thing holding him back from putting pen to paper and heading to Lubbock.

We’ll find out sooner rather than later, so stay tuned!
