Texas Tech drops game one to the evil empire

It’s a heartbreaking start to the weekend.

With the Texas Longhorns coming to Lubbock this weekend, it’s a big weekend for Red Raider baseball. Sadly, the Texas Tech Red Raiders could not take the heat in game one as they were defeated by the Longhorns.

Starting pitcher for the Red Raiders was Davis Martin. The junior right hand pitcher from San Angelo has started in 11 games this season. On Friday night, he pitched six innings allowing nine hits, seven runs, and three walks in six innings and 102 pitches. He was replaced by sophomore John Henry Gonzalez who only pitched for two innings. In his 40 pitches, he allowed four hits, five runs, and one walk.

Gabe Holt started the bottom of the first with a single to center field. He would later score on an RBI groundout from Josh Jung. Throughout the night, Holt had a total of three hits and two runs with a slugging percentage of .800. Zach Rheams hit his 12th home run of the season. It was a two RBI, two run homer that also allowed Grant Little to score. Rheams finished the game with a slugging percentage of 1.667. Also adding to the score was Brian Klein who scored on a double down left field by Grant Little.

The Red Raiders face Texas for Game 2 of the series on Saturday at 1:00 pm in Lubbock.
