The matchup
The Red Raiders return home to take on the San Diego Toreros for a single game set. Texas Tech comes into the matchup 33-12, but are currently on a semi-slump after losing four out of the last five games. Despite the tough road trip, Tech remains in the top ten after dropping to #9 in the D1Baseball.com poll
San Diego comes in to Lubbock 20-24 (9-12) after taking down the BYU Cougars in 2-1 series win in Provo Utah.
Players to watch
Junior UTL Jay Schuyler leads the Toreros with a .353 batting average. In 173 at-bats he’s recorded 31 runs on 61 hits with 29 RBIs and five home runs.
Freshman OF Tora Otsuka is the only other player on the roster who’s batting over .300 with a .316 average. In 174 at-bats, he’s recorded 30 runs on 55 hits with 16 RBIs.
Prediction
The Red Raiders are in a sort of slump as the loss of Gingery is really taking its toll on both the offense and the pitching staff. That being said, this is a completely different team at home with a record of 21-2 at Dan Law Field. San Diego has a losing record and is probably one of the weaker teams that Tech has faced this season. While the Toreros pulled off a decent upset over BYU last weekend, Tech is just on a different level altogether and i won’t expect to see an upset from San Diego this week.
Final prediction: 14-6, Tech pours it on San Diego.
