Former assistant coach Chris Ogden has officially been named the Head Coach at UT Arlington. Coach Ogden was brought to Texas Tech when Chris Beard was named head coach in 2016. Before that, Ogden was Rick Barnes’ assistant at both Tennessee and Texas. Ogden also played on Texas’ Final Four team under Coach Barnes.
Ogden has been the main recruiter for the program, attracting high profile recruits to Texas Tech such as Zhaire Smith, Jarrett Culver, Khavon Moore, and Davide Moretti. Odgen will be missed, as his recruiting skills are something that will help him build an already steady program at UT Arlington. Ogden has been the leading candidate to get this coaching job after Athletic Director Jim Baker fired coach Scott Cross earlier in the month.
This will be Ogden’s first head coaching job. Jim Baker was at Texas during the majority of Ogden’s playing and coaching days there, this is a big reason why Ogden appeared to be the main candidate for the job. We wish Ogden the best as he begins a very well earned job.
