Hitter of the week: Gabe Holt

Holt keeps the offense afloat during a tough stretch

Red Raider baseball is currently mired in a semi-slump. The squad has dropped four of their last five games and just lost another Big 12 conference series against TCU. The offense that we have seen drop 20+ runs on opponents in a single game only managed to get 16 runs across in their four games last week.

The current slide actually makes my job in picking a hitter of the week somewhat easy as only a few Red Raiders had enough production warranting consideration. In fact, after looking over all the box scores, there was really only one option—Gabe Holt.

Holt was nuisance at the top of the lineup for the entire week, going 6-for-15 and reaching twice via base on balls. Being on base that often led to Holt scoring five of the team’s 16 runs. Both his hits and runs scored led Texas Tech for the week. He was one of only three Red Raiders to get a hit in the mid-week loss to Arkansas, and he was the only Red Raider to have a hit in all four games. You can toss in a stolen base and a sac-fly RBI for good measure, too.

Lets hope that the decision for next week will be a harder one.
