Former Texas Tech Wide Receiver Derrick Willies has signed with the Cleveland Browns as an Undrafted Free Agent. He is one of seven former Red Raiders to be either drafted or signed to the NFL today.

At 6’4, it wasn’t a huge surprise that a team gave him a chance. His frame and athleticism is typical for a NFL receiver. The Browns took 2 receivers in the draft this year, so it will be an uphill climb for Willies to make this team.
Willies was highly touted coming into Texas Tech and never really lived up to the hype. His athleticism was always there, but he had problems with drops and making the easy play. If Willies can become more consistent with catching and making the plays he should make, he has the size and speed to become a good receiver in the league.

All of us here in the Red Raider community wish Willies the best with his opportunity with the Cleveland Browns. He will be in a young receiver room, looking for someone to lead. If Willies can make an early impression in training camp, look for Willies to make this team and play on special teams early in his career.
