Nic Shimonek used his one yearnas a starter for the Red Raiders and catapulted that to an NFL contract. He agreed to sign a UDFA contract with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Shimonek started his career at Iowa before transferring to Texas Tech as a preferred walk-on. Shimonek bided his time before becoming the starter this past season leading the Red Raiders to a bowl game after failing to reach one last year.

The Charger recently signed Geno Smith to a team that already holds Phillip Rivers and Cardale Jones. with Rivers nearing the end of his career, Charger fans can’t be too excited with the prospect od two backups that have failed to prove themselves in the NFL so far.

Being an UDFA gave Shimonek the chance to pick his own team and the Chargers are one of the teams in the NFL that gives Shimonek the best chance of making the team. It’s now up to Tatty Ice to make the best of this situation.
