Hitter of the Week: Michael Davis

Two 806 natives power the Red Raiders to a series win over West Virginia

The offense did just enough this week to take the West Virginia series. The offense was powered by two local products of the 806, Monterey Plainsmen alum Braxton Fulford and Lubbock High Westerner alum Michael Davis. The case could be made for Braxton Fulford to be the Hitter of the Week. Although he only started one game and he was only 1-3 in that start. His one run home run in the bottom of the third inning sparked the Red Raiders offense. Before his home run over the left field wall, the Red Raiders had not scored a single run in the series.

Ultimately, though there was another player that took the spark and made it into a torch that others could follow. Michael Davis, an inning after Fulford’s home run, had two run home run of his own. He also had a three run home run the following series clinching game. All told Davis went 2-10 with three runs scored, five RBIs, and two home runs.

In a week with only 12 runs scored Davis accounted for almost half of that run production. Hopefully, his hamstring injury is now behind him and he will continue to swing the bat well.
