Hitter of the week: Grant Little knocks in 9 RBIs

A record setting night highlights an incredible season for the Red Raiders left fielder.

The Red Raiders took full advantage of the howling wind in Lubbock this weekend. Scoring a total of 56 runs in the series sweep over Kansas State. Any number of players could be singled out for having a great weekend but with his nine RBIs in Friday night’s game, Grant Little tied a Texas Tech single game record.

In that Friday night game, he went 4-5 with one three run home run and one grand slam. He had an entire week’s production in just one game. For the week he hit .500, scored seven runs, and 13 total RBIs.

Little is having an incredible sophomore season and along with Josh Jung is pushing for conference player of the year. I believe that this award right now has Little in the lead with Texas’ Kody Clemens a close second. The award just might come down to the three game series in Lubbock in early May. Little continues to show he is one of the top players in the Big 12 and one of the top hitters in the nation.

Another player that had an incredible weekend is Zach Rheams who hit .462 for the week with six runs, 11 RBIs, and 3 home runs in four games. Rheams has been on an incredible streak over the past month and has found himself tied third in the Big 12 with nine home runs for the season. He has done this in essentially ten fewer games than the rest of the home run leaders.
