The matchup
The Red Raiders return to the friendly confines to take on the Kansas State Wildcats for a three-game series. The Red Raiders and Wildcats have met 67 times prior to this weekend and Tech leads the series 39-27-1.
The Wildcats come into Lubbock 15-18 overall and 2-7 in the Big 12. Kansas State has lost six straight after being swept at home by the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
The Red Raiders look to bounce back after a 6-5 loss to the Dallas Baptist Patriots, courtesy of an 8th inning double by Jameson Hannah.
Players to watch
Sophomore OF Will Brennan leads the Wildcats with a .375 batting average. In 33 starts Brennan has recorded 36 runs on 51 hits, as well as 43 RBIs.
Junior OF Drew Mount has batted .263 this season. He has 26 runs on 31 hits. He leads the Wildcats in RBIs with 34 and has eight home runs on the season.
Prediction
The Wildcats have lost six straight to Texas, Creighton, Oklahoma State and Nebraska respectively. They have yet to carve out a win against a ranked opponent and I don’t think they’ll start this weekend. Tech still has to find a way to be more consistent on offense but I think the Red Raider bats will do well against the Wildcat pitching staff. Kansas State has some great hitters but as long as the Tech bullpen continues to play solid they should be able to keep the Wildcats at bay. Look for the Red Raiders to sweep—they need it.
Friday: 8-4 Tech
Saturday: 13-6 Tech
Sunday: 6-4 Tech
