Seven days ago, I selected freshman Zhaire Smith as the player of the week, and I took the occasion to analyze his most recent performances but also to give the first look to his overall season, that has to be absolutely described in positive terms.
This week, there’s another freshman who deserves our attention, as he’s the author of another good season, and on Wednesday against West Virginia he reached his season high in points, also recording the first double-double of the Red Raiders’ season.

26 points were his loot in Morgantown, to which he added 12 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. He obtained this playing 37 minutes, shooting 8/13 from the field and 3/5 from beyond the arc. It was the first time he went double-figures in rebounds and beat his previous record of 25 points, that he reached in the home game against Oklahoma State.
Jarrett, the Lubbock native, didn’t reach the same numbers in the final game of the regular season, as he only scored six points, to which he added seven rebounds, but he nailed two important three-pointers that allowed the Red Raiders to maintain the contact with TCU late in the first half.
Watching his season numbers, Culver averages 11.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. Alongside Zhaire Smith, he’s one of the cornerstones that will build the Texas Tech project in the upcoming seasons. And we’re all excited about that.
