After a hard battle, the Red Raiders lost their third consecutive game to the Jayhawks, and are now tied with the Mountaineers in second place of the Big 12 standing with a 10-6 record. On Monday, Texas Tech and West Virginia will square off in a potential tiebreaker for this position.
The Red Raiders showed up against the Jayhawks with their star, Keenan Evans, clearly slowed down by a toe injury, and almost immediately lost senior Justin Gray for a hit in the head that benched him for the game. In this situation, also the return of Zach Smith, who missed almost two months for an injury, didn’t have any impact.
Despite his injury, Keenan led the team in rebounds, six, but only scored six points. Freshmen Zhaire Smith and Jarrett Culver took charge of the offense and respectively had 20 and 18 points.
