It’s 2018, and as the weeks, months and years fall off the calendar, one thing remains the same: the Big 12 Conference is the best in the country.
From top to bottom, it’s just a supremely deep and talented league. It has been for many years, and when you look around at the coaches in this conference, you can tell it’ll stay that way for years to come.
Another thing that hasn’t changed: Kansas is the best team in the conference.
Looking forward to doing these power rankings all season long. Here’s Week 1!
1. Kansas Jayhawks
The lineup is stacked and the coaching staff unparalleled.
2. Kansas State Wildcats
Dean Wade and Barry Brown get all the hype, and deservedly so—there’s not much else on this roster.
3. TCU Horned Frogs
Desmond Bane and Alex Robinson are off to a hot start, but I’m waiting on freshman Kaden Archie to blow up.
4. Texas Tech Red Raiders
Team is still getting a feel for each other, but Jarrett Culver is as advertised.
5. West Virginia Mountaineers
Don’t let the loss to Buffalo scare you. I tweeted at the start of the season that CJ Massinburg might lead the country in scoring...
Good to see Culver on this list but I wouldn’t say he’s off-the-radar.

Armoni is going to lead UH in scoring this year.
Should have VJ Bailey at Oregon on there, too.
Missing CJ Massinburg. He might lead the country in scoring. #TexasTop100Alumni https://t.co/K7Hsimaks0
... and he dropped 43 points on the Mountaineers in a 99-94 upset win. Can’t underestimate Buffalo, so you can’t take the loss without a grain of salt.
6. Iowa State Cyclones
How long will Preseason All-Conference guard Lindell Wigginton be out? Without him, Cyclones go from great to good.
7. Texas Longhorns
Without any one-and-done type talent on this roster, Shaka Smart’s coaching ability will be put to the test.
8. Oklahoma Sooners
Christian James, Aaron Calixte and Brady Manek are looking like a legitimate Big 3. Don’t sleep on Katy, TX, product Jamal Bienemy, a true freshman with loads of potential.
9. Baylor Bears
Tough loss to open the season against Texas Southern, but bounced back with two decisive wins.
10. Oklahoma State Cowboys
Just picked up their first win of the season last night against an atrocious UTSA team.
