After this week’s games, there’s only a person who deserves to be our player of the week, not only for the points he scored but also for the leadership he offered to his teammates. His name is obviously Keenan Evans.
He didn’t come from an easy week, as against Texas and Iowa State he scored respectively 11 and seven points, both season lows, excluding the scoreless performance he had in late November against Savannah State.
Keenan seemed to sink with the team in the first half against Oklahoma State, as he had only four points and the Red Raiders were trailing by 15, but he led the team to an unexpected comeback with 22 points in the second half, to which he added three rebounds, three steals, and five assists.
The best had yet to come, as in South Carolina Keenan scored 31 points, only one shy of his career high, recorded earlier this year against Nevada. It’s not only a simple matter of points, as he led his teammates through difficult moments in the second half when South Carolina gained some momentum and took the lead.
In the post-game press conference, coach Beard said Evans sometimes wore the Superman cape, and his numbers show it: 7/12 from the court, 4/6 from beyond the arc, 13/13 from the free-throw line, three rebounds, and three assists.
