As a fan, I never thought I would be so happy to see a ranked team win by 5 against an only okay team at home. That is exactly what has happened for most of the Red Raider fan base tonight as the Texas Tech Red Raiders managed to put together a 50 point half and get back into the conference race with a 75-70 win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys tonight in Lubbock.

This win puts the Red Raiders at 5-3 in conference play and 16-4 on the season. This team proved to everyone in attendance and watching this game that they will fight. This team once again was down by double-digits as they trailed at the half by 12 points. This made it the fifth game in a row the Red Raiders trailed by 10 or more points at some point. Keenan Evans finally made an impact after having a regrettable week where he only averaged 9 points per game. Tonight, Keenan had 26 points and 12 trips to the free-throw line.

In one of my recent articles, I mentioned the team needed to get to the line more in order to win and in the second half, that is exactly what happened. The Red Raiders managed to get to the line 33 times this game, more than the two previous games combined. This helped the Red Raiders slow down the pace of the game and gave them 21 easy points that helped put them over the top. Although the first half was one to forget, the defense was never absent, as the Red Raiders seemed to only need more offense to spark the comeback in the second half. Jarrett Culver was a beast in this game pouring in a career-high 25 points to go along with 8 rebounds. Culver shot 4-7 from the 3-point line, something the Red Raiders desperately needed tonight. The Red Raiders only put up 19 three-pointers, a mark that suits them well. They also made 10 of those shots, putting the team over a 50% mark for the game.

Players of the Game - Keenan Evans and Jarrett Culver

This is the first time this season I have selected two players for my Player of the Game. Both of these players stepped up in a big way tonight for the Red Raiders and got them back to their winning ways. Keenan led the way with 26 points and 5 assists while Jarrett Culver had 25 points and 8 rebounds. Combined, they made 14 free throws and 7 three-pointers and contributed over 60% of the points for Texas Tech.

The Red Raiders next face the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday afternoon in Columbia, South Carolina. Keenan will need to continue his scoring ways, and the team will need to play much better than they did in the first half of tonight’s game to beat this team on Saturday. Jarrett Culver will also have to continue his hot streak if he is to become the true second option for this team offensively. What are your thoughts on tonight’s game?
