Lubbock Regional Announced as Red Raiders Earn #5 National Seed

Tech welcomes in Arizona, Sam Houston State, and Delaware to start the postseason

NCAA Baseball: College World Series-Coastal Carolina vs Texas Tech Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

Last night Lubbock was announced as one of sixteen host sites for the NCAA regional’s, and today the full field was announced, including the National Seed that Tech been projected to earn most of the season.

How the Red Raiders Got Here

Tech finished the year at 43-15, with a 17-10 record in the Big 12. Their strength of schedule was not that great, ranked 32nd overall, and just 106th in non-conference. However, the Big 12 was the #1 RPI conference in the nation, with 6 teams finishing in the top-25, not even including the winner of the conference tournament, Oklahoma State, who finished 40th. The Red Raiders finished at 5th in RPI, the highest of any Big 12 team. This was helped out by a 13-6 record against Top 25 teams and 27-4 against teams ranked 51st and below. All of this combined to give Tech the #5 seed, even though they had a relatively poor showing in the conference tournament.

Regional Opponents

#2 Arizona

#3 Sam Houston State

#4 Delaware

The regional will start with Tech playing Delaware on Friday at 2:00 pm. We’ll have a complete regional preview up later this week!!!
