After taking 2 of 3 from TCU and climbing to within a single game of the Frogs in addition to owning the tie-breaker, all eyes are on a big series with the Mountaineers. However, Tech will first look to stay hot and keep rolling against a Big 10 opponent in Columbus.
Ohio State Baseball 2017
The Buckeyes are not as good in baseball as they are in football, with a 17-26 overall record currently. In the beginning of the season, they split a pair of games with Kansas St in the Sunshine State Classic. They then went on to split a pair of games with current #1 team Oregon St. In conference play they are just 5-9, and way down in the RPI rankings at 160. However, Oklahoma went up to face Michigan a few weeks ago and was swept by the Wolverines. Tech needs to not take this series lightly, but as a warm up to a big conference series in Morgantown this weekend.
At the plate, the Buckeyes are led by Dominic Canzone, who is hitting .339 and slugging at .468. He also has 22 RBI’s and is 8 for 9 on stealing bases. Jalen Washington is hitting only .253, but has started all 43 games, and leads the team in at bats, runs, doubles, triples, and home runs. On the mound tonight is Jake Vance (0-2, 5.79 ERA) who is allowing a team high .375 opponent batting average amongst OSU starters.
This will be a 2-game series, with both games scheduled to start at 5:35pm central time. Both games will be streamed on “Buckeye Vision” for free and can heard on 97.3 FM. At this time, Tech has not released the starters for either game.
Earlier this week a pair of Red Raiders received conference recognition. Hunter Hargrove was named Big 12 player of the week, going 9-18 last week with 6 RBI’s and 6 runs. Hunter leads the conference in hits (66), doubles (19), and total bases (104). Freshman Brian Klein was named the Big 12 newcomer of the week, going 9-19, with a double, triple, and a pair of home runs, with 10 RBI’s and 6 runs.
UPDATE
OSU has cancelled the game tonight due to “predicted weather”. Forecast shows the temperature in the high 50’s with a 15 mph wind, but no rain chances. There will be a single game tomorrow.
