Time for our weekly Patrick Mahomes update.
The football nerds—I mean, experts—at Pro Football Focus have Mahomes listed behind Mitch Trubisky and Deshaun Watson but ahead of Deshone Kizer. It seems like everyone has been ranked the No. 1 QB at one point, and the No. 4 QB at another. What a circus.
In any case, PFF has Mahomes going No. 27 overall to the Kansas City Chiefs. This has been a common prediction, most draft pundits have the Chiefs selecting a QB in the first round to develop for the future. I understand they want to start working on a franchise quarterback, but why not wait until next year with guys like Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Mason Rudolph and Lamar Jackson? This is a terribly weak draft class at football’s most important position. I digress.
It’s just too difficult to predict where each quarterback is going to go, and in what order. There are so many variables to consider, and no single quarterback has separated himself from the others with an overwhelming combine performance or by any other metric. The waiting game continues.
