Davis Martin likely out for at least two weeks

Red Raiders will test their pitching depth in his absence

NCAA Baseball: College World Series-Coastal Carolina vs Texas Tech Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

With the news that Texas Tech ace Davis Martin is out for at least two weeks, the Red Raiders will test their depth on the mound and in the bullpen going forward.

The news was first reported by Andrew Doak on Tuesday.

Martin was 4-1 with a 2.57 ERA as the Red Raiders’ Friday night ace before he got hurt.

Replacing Martin will be freshman RHP John Henry Gonzalez, who’s gone 2-2 with a 3.91 ERA this season. Gonzalez will pitch Friday night, which means Tadlock didn’t want to take Gingery or Shetter out of their normal routines on Saturday and Sunday. They’ve pitched incredibly well thus far, and there’s no reason to mix up their schedules. Tadlock will take two wins out of every series, regardless of what days they happen.

The series against Baylor this weekend will be a tough one, but Tech has a strong enough bullpen to get Gonzalez out of any jams he finds himself in on Friday. Check out our podcast tomorrow for more baseball talk and staff predictions.
