This marks the first time the Red Raiders have ever played in the Birmingham Bowl and the first time the Red Raiders have ever played South Florida. The Bulls finished their season 9-2 and second in the AAC East. Led by their star quarterback Quinton Flowers, USF will be heading back to Birmingham for the second year in a row.
This also marks the fourth year in a row that Texas Tech will play a Charlie Strong coached team. The former Texas head coach will look to finish his first season at USF on a high note.
