Defensive player of the game: Big day from an unsung hero

Tony Jones comes off the bench to be a light on an otherwise dark day.

I came close to copying our Managing Editor’s lead by choosing no one for this week. However there were some bright spots for a defense that held a rushing team to it’s second lowest rushing output in regulation this season. This award usually goes to the player that produces a crucial turnover in the game, and as much as I’d love to give this to big Mych Thomas, there was another player on the line that had a major impact during the game.

Tony Jones came off the bench for Kolin Hill after Hill was ejected for targeting and made an impact immediately. Jones had two big second half sacks and added another tackle for loss and QB hurry to his day. Both of Jones’ sacks came at big points in the game. Jones’ seemed to be the only player on the defensive side of the ball still playing hard in the second half and for that, he gets rewarded.
