One thought one take: It's do or die time for the Red Raiders

The next two weeks will define the 2017 season.

The thought.

Well October is in the books and as far as October's go, this one was definitely forgettable. After starting 3-1, the Red Raiders started the month with a convincing win in Lawrence that landed them in the AP top 25, only to drop three straight games against West Virginia, Iowa State and Oklahoma respectively. It's easy to understand why a lot of fans have already written off this season as a loss.

But that was October, a month that glorifies candy corn.

It's a new month and the toughest part of the season is behind us. It's time for Red Raider Nation to wash our hands if that god forsaken month and move on, because this season ain't over.

Here’s what we have left:

  • Kansas State at home.
  • Baylor in Arlington.
  • TCU at home.
  • Texas in Austin

The Red Raiders will take on the Kansas State Wildcats at home before traveling to Arlington to take on the Baylor Bears. These next two games will be crucial in the outcome of this season. Win both, and you become bowl eligible and have momentum going into the TCU game. Lose just one however and now you have to upset either TCU or Texas on the road to make it to a bowl.

Shimonek described himself as streaky and I think that's an accurate statement about the team as a whole. When everything is clicking then they are unstoppable. When something is off, inconsistent field goal kicking for example, they tend to unravel. So if Tech can take care of business against Kansas State and Baylor, I think the good guys also win one or both against Texas and TCU. On the other hand if you lose just one of these, I don't see Tech pulling off any upsets to close the season.

The take.

It's do or die time! This weekend could be especially important because a big win over Kansas State could mean a good kickoff time against TCU on senior night. If Tech can take care of business and play good clean football, I can see the Red Raiders winning out the season.

What’s your take?
