Game Preview: Texas Tech at Kansas

Previewing the Week 6 Matchup at Kansas

Kansas (1-3) has had two weeks to prepare for Texas Tech (3-1), coming off their 56-34 loss to West Virginia. Giving any underdog team extra time to prepare should give one pause, especially David Beaty and Doug Meacham, Kansas’ new offensive coordinator formerly of Oklahoma State and TCU. Meacham has the Kansas ground game rolling as they racked up nearly 400 yards against what was thought to be a strong defense in West Virginia. Led by Sophomore, Khalil Herbert who is averaging 7.6 yards per carry to go along with his 4 TDs.

The passing attack for Kansas isn’t in as good of shape. The Kansas quarterback is Junior, Peyton Bender. Through 4 games Bender has a 57.3 completion percentage to go along with 7 TDs and 7 INTs. If Texas Tech is to have any success defensively, I would expect Tech to bring pressure early and often to put pressure on a struggling QB and try to stuff the running lanes as much as possible.

Here’s the tale of the tape:

Texas Tech is favored by 15.5 on the road and look to be in good shape in every facet of the game. However, Tech’s recent struggles in Lawrence, an 11am kickoff and an improved Kansas offense means that Tech will have to come with the fire they showed after the Oklahoma State and ready to release some frustration on a weaker opponent.
The game will be televised on FS1 at 11am.
