Big 12 power rankings: Week 9

Some shuffling in the middle of the conference, but the top remains the same

NCAA Football: Kansas at Texas Christian Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Not a great deal of movement in this edition, but some marquee matchups could shake up the rankings next week.

1. TCU Horned Frogs (-)

Garry Patterson and his vaunted defense destroyed Kansas last week and the Frogs remain the favorite to win the conference at this point in the season.

2. Oklahoma State Cowboys (-)

A nice overtime win in Austin keeps the Cowboys conference title hopes alive.

3. Oklahoma Sooners (-)

Would’ve loved to move the Sooners down, but those rascals escaped the Little Apple with a win against Kansas State.

4. West Virginia Mountaineers (-)

Baylor will eventually win a conference game, it’s just a matter of which team will play bad enough to let it happen. This was almost the case in West Virginia’s narrow 38-36 win against the Bears last week.

5. Iowa State Cyclones (+1)

Yeah, the Cyclones are looking like they’re pretty good at football. A win against TCU will really, really validate this team.

6. Texas Longhorns (-1)

The Longhorn offense is a joke but the defense is stingy. Basically that means Texas can lose to any team, but also beat any team. Weird.

7. Kansas State Wildcats (+1)

The Wildcats have really disappointed this season, but they’ve still got a few wins left in the tank and will be a tough out if they make it to a bowl game.

8. Texas Tech Red Raiders (-1)

The Red Raiders need a bounce back win in a huge way, and who better to do that against than Baker Mayfield and the Oklahoma Sooners?

9. Kansas Jayhawks (-)

Who cares?

10. Baylor Bears (-)

The Bears have Texas, Kansas, Texas Tech, Iowa State and TCU remaining on their schedule. They’re bound to win at least one of those, right?
