The first of hopefully many honors came for the Red Raider basketball team on Thursday as it was announced that Zach Smith made the preseason All-Big 12 Team. Smith is the fist Red Raider since 2006 to make the preseason all-conference team. He made it alongside Devonte Graham of Kansas, Jeffrey Carroll of Oklahoma State, Vladimir Brodziansky of TCU, and Jevon Carter of West Virginia. All five players on the team are seniors and leaders for their respective teams this season.

Keenan Evans, who made the All-Big 12 Third Team last year, received Honorable Mention. This will be the first time Tech basketball has had two players receive Big 12 preseason honors since 2011. Both players hope to be key cogs in a special year for the Texas Tech basketball program, as they hope to rebound from a disappointing season that ended without a postseason berth.
