It was a competitive, but rather unsuccessful week for the Lady Raiders. Texas Tech fell on the road against #22 West Virginia. A slow start for the Lady Raiders left them to dig out out of a 43-24 deficit at the half. Offense has had its inconsistencies this season, but on Wednesday they fired on all cylinders in the latter half. This jump start to the offense fell short of a win with West Virginia being able to hold on to a 89-79 win. Ivonne Cook-Taylor, the Senior scoring machine notched a season-high 19 points in their loss. Recee’ Caldwell recorded 16 points and 5 assists. Larryn Brooks and Jada Terry scored in double figures as well.
This past Saturday, the Lady Raiders traveled to Lawrence, Kansas to face the Jayhawks for the first time this season. Once again, offense was sputtering as they dropped a close one. The 66-60 loss was a in huge part because of the Jayhawks inability to miss the basket in the second half. Kansas shot 76% from the field while holding Texas Tech 42% in the 3rd quarter alone. Although Texas Tech’s shooting was hindered, Ivonne CookTaylor a second-straight double digit game with 14 points. Larryn Brooks scored 14 points, while Larryn Brooks scored 11.
The Lady Raiders return to home on Wednesday to finish their series with Kansas State. The Wildcats had previously defeated the Lady Raiders in Kansas, 68-54.
