10 Red Raider baseball players were drafted while the team was making its run to Omaha. Even though college baseball is in the offseason, the players making a push towards their dream of the MLB are currently playing in the MiLB.
Tyler Neslony - 9th round, Atlanta Braves
Tyler started off his minor league career with the Danville Braves in the rookie-level Appalachian League. He played 5 games with Danville, going 8-16 with 5 runs, including 3 doubles and a home run, totalling 5 RBIs. After those 5 games, he was sent to the Rome Braves, the single A affiliate of Atlanta that plays in the South Atlantic League. So far, in 2 games, he has gone 3-9, with a double and an RBI.
Stephen Smith - 10th round, Arizona Diamondbacks
Smith has played 9 games for the short season A-level Hillsboro Hops of the Northwest League. Stephen has gone 11-29 with a pair of doubles and an RBI along with 5 runs. Smith has continued his success for getting on base, with an OPS of almost 1.000.
Hayden Howard - 12th round, Washington Nationals
Hayden has pitched 1 game for the Gulf Coast League Nationals, at the rookie level. He went 2 innings, allowing no hits and just 1 walk while striking out 2. Howard received credit for the win, a 5-2 victory over the Mets affiliate.
Robert Dugger - 18th round, Seattle Mariners
Robert recorded his 1st career save on Sunday, allowing 1 hit in 1 inning during a 2-1 victory over the Arizona League Padre affiliate.
Eric Gutierrez - 20th round, Miami Marlins
Gute played 1 game with the Gulf Coast League Marlins, going 3-5 with 7 total bases, and was a triple short of a cycle. He was then sent to the Batavia Muckdogs of the NY-Penn League in short season A-level. In his 6th game with Batavia, Gute went 3-3, with 7 total bases, just a triple short of the cycle yet again. So far, in 10 games in the minors, Gute has gone 10-37 with 6 runs and 11 RBIs.
