Two Texas Tech Baseball Players Named Freshman All-Americans

As the Red Raider's season continues, members of the baseball club continue to receive honors.

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

Texas Tech had a fast start, a slow middle, and an explosive end to their regional tournament. Tech annihilated Fairfield, came back to defeat New Mexico, was resoundingly beaten by Dallas Baptist, and held on to defeat Dallas Baptist in the rubber match to advance to a Super Regional.

While in the process of this historic season for Texas Tech's baseball club, multiple members have gained honors for their play. Eric Gutierrez is the Big XII Player of the Year. Texas Tech had 11 Academic All-Americans. Several others gained 1st Team All-Conference honors. Today, the number of honors bestowed on Texas Tech baseball grew by two.

Stephen Gingery and Davis Martin were both named to the Freshmen All-American team.

The two pitchers played extraordinarily well for Texas Tech this season (obviously). Gingery was 4-2 with a 3.38 ERA, but his stats in conference play were an exceptional 3-0 with a 1.85 ERA over 8 starts.

Martin has been lights out no matter where he plays, tallying a perfect 9-0 on the season with a 2.31 ERA.
