Texas Tech Comeback Falls Short

NCAA Baseball: College World Series-Mississippi vs Texas Tech Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

Texas Tech: 6 runs, 8 hits, 0 errors

Dallas Baptist: 10 runs, 13 hits, 3 errors

Play That Impacted the Game

Hunter Hargrove has had some big hits this season, and tonight was no different. With the bases loaded and 2 outs, he laced a ball that glanced off the 3rd baseman's glove and into left field. 2 runs would score and close the gap to 10-6.

Stat of the Game

In the 6-run 7th inning for Tech, DBU needed 3 pitchers to get 3 outs, and walked 6 Red Raiders. The offense and crowd finally woke up, late in the game like they did last night against New Mexico. It was just too little, too late.

Forgotten Play of the Game

In an ugly and forgettable bottom of the 2nd inning, DBU has 2 on with 2 outs when a ball was hit to deep left field. Tyler Neslony made a great sliding catch at the wall to end the inning and limit the damage done by DBU.

Big Reason Tech Lost the Game

The pitching could not get it going tonight, with DBU batters making contact at almost every at bat in the first few innings. At the same time, our batters had no luck in the beginning of the game. Even when we did make contact, the Patriot fielders were in the right spot at the right time and we couldn't muster many hits. A huge 7th inning would not be enough, as Tech spotted DBU a 10-run lead.

The regional finale will be tomorrow at 2:00pm.
