Bethel saw the field in 9 games for Texas Tech, starting 5 of them. He recorded 12 PBUs and a fantastic INT against Texas. Bethel was set to be a cornerstone of Texas Tech's defensive backfield and a key member of the defense in general in 2016.
Bethel was also on the Texas Tech 4x100 team. The team qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2016, making it the first sprint relay team from Texas Tech to advance since 2012 and only the 5th in school history.
He will likely compete for starting time at the cornerback position and on the 4x100 team (if he chooses to do so) immediately. The former 4* Miami prospect was considered a recruiting steal for Texas Tech at the time of his recruitment, and was expected to make huge waves at Texas Tech.
Good luck to Nigel at Eastern Kentucky.
