After the departure of Nigel Bethel and with the general subpar play of our defense, Texas Tech has shifted their recruiting focus to the defensive backfield. Texas Tech now has 4 DB commits in the class of 2017. This time around, the Red Raiders picked up a composite 3* safety, Kamren Curl.

Curl is a Muskogee, Oklahoma product who held offers from Houston, Cincinnati, and Illinois before committing to Texas Tech. He comes in to help out a defensive backfield that is holding a lot of upperclassmen, most of whom underperformed in 2015.
Curl might not get a shot to start immediately, but there will be a chance that he plays a significant portion of downs in 2017 with the departure of most of our backfield. Curl also plays WR, so in the event that something doesn't work out on the defensive side of the ball, he can easily make the transition. Curl is Texas Tech's 12th commit for the 2017 class.
