What a difference a week makes. A week ago at this time the Red Raiders were sitting at 7 commits for the 2017 class and within a week's time it's now at 10 commits strong. Last week Texas Tech landed two more offensive linemen, I'll take a look at them today, and Houston area DB Adam Beck which I said I had a really good feeling about in last week's Recruiting Roundup. With the offensive line and quarterback position pretty much filled in the 2017 class, where do you want the coaching staff to focus now?
Jared Hocker | 6'5", 295 lbs | Offensive Line
Birdville High School (North Richland Hills, TX)
24/7 | Rivals
| Scout
Jared Hocker committed to the Red Raiders on 6/10 after decommitting from the Kansas Jayhawks recently. Texas Tech offered Hocker back in April and the Red Raiders are one of 8 offers he holds. Hocker already has a great frame but I expect him to still add a few pounds for the next level. Even though he's 6'5", Hocker is able to get low on defenders and gain leverage on them off of the snap. He also is athletic enough to get out in front on plays where he's pulling. With so many OL commits it'll be interesting to see what position Hocker ends up at.
Will Farrar | 6'5", 290 lbs | Offensive Line
Travis High School (Richmond, TX)
24/7 | Rivals
| Scout
Will Farrar holds 28 offers (that's a lot) and was once committed to UCLA. I personally thought that Texas was the leader in landing him but I was obviously wrong. He surprised some folks when he became the 2nd OL commit of the day on 6/10 and is now the 6th offensive line commit for the 2017 class. Some sites have Farrar as a guard while others have him as a tackle so it'll be interesting to see which way Kliff and company chose to go. In his highlights below you can see that he already has some experience working out of a two-point stance and I believe he looks like a perfect fit for the Red Raiders.
As I mentioned in my opening paragraph, it looks like offensive line and quarterback are wrapped up for the 2017 class if everything stays how it is right now, but then again this is recruiting and it's unpredictable. Below is a poll for which position group you want the coaching staff to focus on now. Whichever group wins, I'll cover 3 players within that group who could end up as Red Raiders in next week's Recruiting Roundup.
