NCAA Baseball: College World Series-TCU vs Texas Tech Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

BOX SCORE:

SCORE: TTU - 6 ECU - 8

HITS: ECU - 13 TTU - 8

ERRORS: ECU - 0 TTU - 1

PLAY THAT HAD THE BIGGEST IMPACT:

ECU’s huge fifth inning deserves a spot here all on its own. Travis Watkins hit a grand slam, Davis Martin looked shook, and the Pirate bats just seemed to find the soft spots in the Texas Tech defense every single hit.

STAT OF THE GAME:

The stat that encapsulates everything is four.

We hit four ECU batters.

This was not our game.

FORGOTTEN PLAY OF THE GAME:

Tyler Floyd got Davis Martin out of a huge jam in the second inning. ECU had runners on first and second, with 1 out and a 3-1 count on the batter. Tyler Floyd picked the runner off at second, and Davis Martin struck the batter out two pitches later. A very bad situation for the Red Raiders early was erased, and Texas Tech went on to score that inning.

RED RAIDER OF THE GAME:

Tyler Floyd had a hell of a game at catcher, throwing out two crucial runners in the early moments of the game. Floyd’s defense helped Texas Tech get out of several ECU scoring situations.

BIG REASON TEXAS TECH LOST THE GAME:

Travis Watkins’s Grand Slam. It’s really that simple. Even with multiple people on base, Texas Tech held their water very well up until that point. That moment cut ECU loose.
