Red Raiders in the Pros: Baseball Edition

A look at some former Red Raiders are doing in the pros

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

Corey Taylor - P - St. Lucie Mets

Last season in Lubbock, Corey led the entire nation with an ERA of just 0.31. He was drafted in the 7th round by the Mets and played with the Brooklyn Cyclones in the NY-Penn league last summer. He played in 18 games with a record of 1-1 and an ERA of 1.50 as a relief pitcher. He is currently playing for St. Lucie of the Florida State League, and is off to a great start. In 10 appearances, he has thrown 14 innings, allowing only 16 hits, with an ERA of just 1.29 and has only issued 3 walks.

Hunter Redman - C - Lake Elsinore Storm

After a successful season at Tech in 2014, where Hunter led the team in batting average during the super regionals, he was drafted by the Dodgers in 2014. Hunter hit .239 that summer with the Ogden Raptors in the Pioneer League. He spent 2015 with 3 different teams in 3 different leagues, only appearing in 4 games, but did play with AA Tulsa and AAA Oklahoma City. This season he'll be playing in the California League with Lake Elsinore, a A+ team.

AJ Ramos - P - Miami Marlins

AJ was selected by Miami with the 638th overall pick in 2012 and has worked his way into the closer position with the Marlins. Last season he went 32-38 in save opportunities with an ERA of 2.30. This season, AJ has been on fire, a perfect 12-12 in save opportunities in 17 appearances with an ERA of only 1.13. AJ is a fun player to watch, full of energy and emotion, giving his all every pitch. He is currently tied for 3rd in the majors in saves, just 2 behind leader Jeanmar Gomez of the Phillies. AJ also recently gave a shoutout to the Red Raiders for winning the Big 12 regular season title
