Red Raiders Blast Past Panthers, 9-1

Tech answers back in a big way after a sub-par Game 2

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

1. Red Raider of the Game

Starting pitcher Ty Damron was lights out, especially in the beginning of the game when Tech was piling on the runs in the first couple innings. The only run was unearned, and he only allowed 1 hit while facing 20 batters, with 4 strikeouts.

2. Play That Impacted the Game

After 2 quick outs to start the bottom half of the 1st inning, Stephen Smith was able to get a walk, and then stole second. Gute was able to double him in, but without the walk and the steal, Tech's offense would not have been able to have the start they had.

3. Stat of the Game

7. Tech was able to push 7 runs over the plate through the first 3 innings to jump ahead early and set the tone for the game.

4. Forgotten Play of the Game

After Damron walked Daulton Varsho to start the 4th, Nick Unes hit a ball to center that Tanner Gardner was able to catch on a great diving play. Tanner has had a great start to the season in the field, with highlight plays coming each game of this opening series.

5. Big Reason Tech Won the Game

We had more runs than Milwaukee. An opportunistic offense early in the game was able to chase the starter in the 3rd inning, and a great job by pitchers Ty Damron and Davis Martin, allowing only 2 hits and 1 run

We'll see everyone at 11:30am on Sunday for the 4th and final game of this opening series.
