Can the Red Raiders keep the momentum rolling?

Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

To say that the Texas Tech Red Raiders are hot right now is the understatement of the century. Coming off of three back to back to back top-25 victories, including an upset of #3 Oklahoma, Texas Tech might be on the biggest momentum train in the nation. Unfortunately, we face a little bit of a trap game in the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

Oklahoma State has struggled as of late, but that doesn't make them any less dangerous. Any game in the Big XII at this point in the season is going to be a little bit of a trap game, and if the Red Raiders are going to get a favorable seed in March Madness, they're going to have to win the games they should win.

Cowboys Ride For Free

Oklahoma State Key Players:

Category Stat Name
Points/Game 13.3 Phil Forte (INJ)
Rebounds/Game 5.1 Leyton Hammonds
Assists/Game 4.9 Juwan Evans (INJ)
3pt Made/3pt% 32/99, .32% Leyton Hammonds
Free Throw % .857 Phil Forte (INJ)

As we can see, the vast majority of the Cowboy's impact players are struggling with injury. This doesn't mean that they aren't a dangerous team, however. Leyton Hammonds isn't half bad, and the strength of Oklahoma State's guards means that the Red Raiders will have to play quality defense in order to win.

Last Five Games:

at Texas Tech L, 63-61 OT
#13 Iowa State L, 64-59
at TCU L, 63-56
Kansas State W, 58-55, OT
at Kansas L, 94-57

In their last five games, the Cowboys have struggled, and their schedule doesn't get any easier. They polish the season off with games against us, Oklahoma, Iowa State, West Virginia, and Texas, who are all ranked in the top 25 (except us). This could end up being an all-time bad season for Oklahoma State.

Score Prediction:

Texas Tech 68, Oklahoma State 58.

Oklahoma State is a team that's fading down the stretch. I've tried to look at scenarios where the Cowboys come out with a win, and most of them involve freak tornadoes and Final Destination-esque fatalities. The Red Raiders are simply too hot right now, and take this one handily.
