Texas Tech women’s soccer has had much success over the last few years, making deep runs into the playoffs. This year hasn’t brought the same success on the field with the Red Raiders going 2-6 in conference, but four student-athletes from the team were named to All-Big 12 teams yesterday.
This from the official Texas Tech athletics site:
Senior goalkeeper Lauren Watson was named to the all-conference first team, sophomore midfielder Gwennie Puente picked up second team honors, while Jordie Harr & Jade King were selected to the All-Freshman team. Both Harr & King were unanimously voted on by the Big 12 coaches.
Tech's four honorees are the most since the Red Raiders had five selected to the three squads in 2014. Watson is the first Red Raider keeper to pick up first team honors since Victoria Esson in 2013. That year, Tech also placed two to the newcomer squad, as this year's two are tied with Kansas for the most freshmen selected to the 2016 team.
Congrats to Lauren, Gwennie, Jade & Jordie on being named to the All-Big 12 teams! https://t.co/n6ky6MMKU8 #wreckem pic.twitter.com/p2bo2fRZfA

The 2016 Big 12 Soccer Championship tournament kicks off Wednesday morning and Texas Tech drew the toughest seed in the conference, scheduled to play West Virginia at 11:30 a.m. West Virginia was as dominant as any team in the country when it comes to conference play; they didn’t surrender one goal in conference all year. That’s incredible.
Good luck to the Texas Tech soccer team tomorrow morning. Wreck ‘em.
The Red Raiders will take on No. 1 West Virginia in the opening round of the #Big12SOC Championship Wednesday at 11:30 am! #WreckEm https://t.co/v1ErPDLo0A
