Media Recap - Week 5

Kliff Kingsbury, Justis Nelson and Jonathan Giles met with the media Monday ahead of this weekend’s showdown with Kansas State

Kliff Kingsbury, Justis Nelson and Jonathan Giles met with the media Monday following the Kansas win. Heading into the press conference, everyone wanted to know what was going on with Patrick Mahomes and his injury. Anyone who has followed Kliff knows that he comes from the school of Bill Belichick which teaches those speaking should say nothing of substance.

I know many fans hate this school of thought and my opinion is incredibly unpopular, but saying something of substance doesn’t do anything for the team or coaching staff. It just appeases the fans and media, which is not Kliff’s job. I worked in public relations in professional sports for six years and I always instructed others to do the same. There are times when explaining issues, thoughts and strategies are incredibly important. I don’t feel this is one. I know many disagree, which is okay. But Mike Leach, who gave some of the best press conferences in Texas Tech history, wouldn’t even address injuries. I have no problem with Kliff doing the same thing.

I think the video below is great. Check it out, followed by the actual press conference.
